A Friday in May. Jacarandas dropping purple on Main Street, the Yagura tower lit red over Little Tokyo. The four of us walking down to dinner at seven with light still in the sky and an hour and change before the doors open. Janice will order the ceviche before her chair is pulled out. Robert will read the cocktail menu twice, then a third time. Nic will laugh at something nobody quite caught. We'll eat slow, finish drinks at nine, walk a block and a half to the Regent with after-work warm still on our cheeks, slide into our seats as the lights go down.

Worth knowing

Doors typically 30-45 min before showtime. Be in line by 9:15 PM if you want decent seats. The Regent is mostly general admission, mix of standing and tiered seating.
Phones may be locked in Yondr pouches (Netflix Is A Joke convention for taping-eligible shows). Plan to be unreachable for ~90 minutes; foyer is fine for emergencies.
Parking in DTLA on Friday night is rough. Joe's Parking at 4th + Main runs $15-20, or split a Lyft and skip it. Street meters near the Regent are red after 8 PM but the lots are safer for a late finish.
Bar inside the Regent is a full pour but the line at 9:30 is 10-15 minutes deep. One drink at dinner, one at the venue, that's the right pacing.
After the show wraps near 11 PM. Far Bar pours till 2, Suehiro until 3 — both within walking distance if anyone wants a debrief drink before calling it.
